We are proud to announce some exciting news about Ada's Technical Books and Cafe! We are proud to stand with a bevy of nationally recognized firms and receive a citation In the category of light commercial for the 2014 Residential Architect Design Awards.

RADA2014

About the competition, the magazine had this to say:

"Architects are no strangers to competition. It is at the very core of every studio survived, every RFP completed, and every commission won. So when I say that competition for this year’s Residential Architect Design Awards was incredibly fierce, I don’t do so lightly. When the jury—which included Cary Bernstein, AIA, Gregory Hoss, AIA, Joel Sanders, AIA, and Josh Shelton, AIA—convened in our office in Washington, D.C., there were nearly 700 entries on the table before them. When they parted at the end of two days, only 26 emerged victorious. These winners represent some of the best residential architecture that North America has to offer—from luxurious custom beachside estates, to net-zero prefab infill, to high-density affordable living units."

These awards are something I (this is Jeff speaking now) have looked at annually since graduating from Cornell.  I remember reading these magazines in the conference room of my first Seattle job and hoping to one day win of these as the projects they highlight are always beautiful and approachable.   I'm overjoyed to have Ada's recognized in this way and can honestly say it is a crowning professional high.  The entire team from the Owners, Danielle and David at Ada's to the construction crew at Model Remodel deserves recognition for pulling this project together and making it a centerpiece of an outstanding neighborhood (of which Board & Vellum and Jeff himself are both residents of).

Regarding the project, juror Cary Bernstein said. “It's visually innovative, even down to the furniture and lighting fixtures, and it's a very fully considered space at all levels of design.”

We're beyond honored.
