A Home Kitchen for a Professional Chef
Chef’s Kitchen
A modern kitchen for a professional chef, tucked into a 1930s architectural gem.
This kitchen remodel in an architecturally significant 1930s home for a well-regarded Master Chef carefully respects the character of the home while bringing the kitchen not only into the current day, but up to the standards of a professional chef’s home kitchen. A simple, but clean, palette of walnut and white cabinets is accented by full walls of Carrara marble tile. Underfoot, gray Marmoleum mimics the grain of the walnut, but is sturdy enough to support the action of a lively kitchen.
The kitchen is divided into specific areas to maximize efficiency and avoid circulation problems, which can ruin even the most gorgeous space. A dramatic, new steel window framing an expansive view forms the backdrop for a cozy eating area with a playful storage wall — creating a calmer zone out of the main kitchen area. The custom built-in shelving in the eating nook houses not only a collection of cookbooks, but using walnut accents, also makes space for additional bottle storage, a flatscreen TV, and a portion of enclosed storage at the base. Beyond the kitchen, with shared access to the dining room, a simple bar provides easy access to bar items along with some additional storage.
Client Review
“Board & Vellum designed a major kitchen remodel in our 1936 international modern home that expanded the kitchen into an adjacent bedroom. Jeff listened carefully to our vision and requirements and was a pleasure to work with. He led us to an excellent contractor and cabinet maker. The completed project fits seamlessly into the house, looks gorgeous, and is a joy to cook in and live in.”
