Join Us: August 31, 6PM Below Grade at Board & Vellum
For this gathering, Night School will be investigating architecture and design as it relates to small business. We are so fortune in Seattle to have a thriving community of small businesses, but operating a successful small business can be difficult. In our experience working on small commercial spaces, we have seen how the right space and the right design can make a huge difference for a business. Do you remember the entrance to your favorite little shop? How about the cozy outdoor seating at the neighborhood café down the street? Do you notice how great spaces always feel activated with people only if there are a handful of people inside? Signage, layout, character, branding — all of these elements contribute greatly to the success of a space.
We will be joined by Dani Cone of Fuel Coffee, High 5 Pie, and Cone & Steiner; I-Miun Liu of the Oasis Tea Zone; Lindsey Engh of Impact Hub Seattle; and Jeff Pelletier of Board & Vellum. These four, local, small business owners will sit on a panel to discuss the impact of design on their businesses and spaces. We invite you to join as our guest panelists and other small business owners, designers, builders, and community members share how they have seen first-hand how architecture and design affect small business. Directly following the panel, we will reconvene over light food and drinks to further discuss design for small business.
As with all of our events, Night School has been left intentionally somewhat ambiguous in the hopes that over the course of time, events will adapt and respond to the topics and guests. Night School is a departure from our daily work at Board & Vellum to debate, discuss, and analyze broad topics that impact what we do, and we would love for you to join!
Past events have analyzed architecture and time, the shape of cities, the role of architects in society, and, most recently, crowded cities and impromptu settlements.
RSVP on Eventbrite. And, check out the event on Facebook. We look forward to seeing you soon!
