Restoration of a Historic Home After a Fire
Colonial Restoration On The Hill
Restoring a historic Colonial Revival mansion after a fire.
This historic Colonial Revival mansion was ravaged by fire in 2014. As the roof and upper story burned, water from the fire hoses turned the ornate grand staircase into a waterfall, bloating the intricate woodwork. The need for careful historic restoration was dire.
Though the mansion itself was saved, much of the original architectural details were damaged or lost, requiring a skillful eye for preservation technique and visionary know-how to work with what was left.
Careful integration of modern systems into a vintage structure restored the home with details that both characterize past ideals and represent cutting-edge efficiencies of the current era, inside and out.
The home is now upgraded with sustainable features that include greywater recycling and processing, solar panels for energy storage, filament LED lighting that emulates Edison-style incandescent bulbs at a fraction of the cost, and salvaged elements from other demolished buildings.
The result is a restoration of grand proportion, showing that you can indeed revitalize antiquated edifices and still blend well with current trends.

Client Review
“Robert and the whole B&V team did a great job restoring our house after a fire. The end result feels very new and authentic while also maintaining historical features. Additionally, they were able to keep the project very green by reusing many fixtures, restoring woodwork, and updating to new efficient technology. They executed and expanded on our vision to deliver an excellent outcome overall!”
