New Construction Home on a Dairy Farm
Keller Farmhouse
A new custom home often mistaken for a “well-tended old farmhouse.”
The Kellers run a family dairy in Fall City, and they knew their old, leaning house would not make it through many more winters. They needed a new, classic farmhouse that fit their budget, supported their active farming life, and let the sunshine reach in.
Since the existing home was located in the Snoqualmie River flood plain, the new home was limited to the same 2,314 square foot building area or less, but needed to be a comfortable place for a growing family of six. The finished home is 2,330 square feet on two levels, with four bedrooms, three baths, and an office. It includes a wrap-around, covered porch and a detached garage with a cozy studio apartment above for their children to use while they are in college.
Inside, bright white cabinets in the kitchen reflect the daylight streaming in from windows on the east and south sides of the home and reclaimed hickory beams join the dining room to the living room. A centrally located masonry fireplace is a wood-burning radiant heater that warms the whole house with one or two fires a day.
Quite often, people enjoying a drive in the country will stop, get out of their cars, and take photos of this “well-tended old farmhouse,” none the wiser.
