An Exterior Makeover for a ’70s Split-Level

Modern Split

An exterior makeover transforming a ’70s split-level home.

The owners of this 1970s split-level came to Board & Vellum hoping we could help them give a modern refresh to the original exterior of their home.
With a tight budget, and little room to change the entry sequence or the locations of doors and windows, we worked closely with the homeowners to create a modern look greatly increasing curb appeal.

Thoughtful siding changes in select locations paired with an investment in new aluminum garage doors, a poured-in-place concrete wall at the entry, and new planters at the street edge brought new life to the front façade of the home.

At the back of the house, some reconfiguring at the main floor deck with a simple material palette, transformed the backyard from an under-used afterthought to a multi-level outdoor living space.

A new concrete wall at the edge of the back patio proves to be a perfect spot for summer movie nights, and an integrated hot tub at the deck landing provides privacy while still merging seamlessly into the overall design. New railings and hardscape round out the design, creating an efficient, welcoming backdrop for entertaining.

Client Review
“The team at B&V were amazing on our project. We had some remodeling to do on a place we bought and Jeff and his crew helped make our vision a reality. They really listened to our desires and helped craft a plan that was both in our style and budget. They were great about finding solutions to some of the road-blocks we ran into and always got back to us in a timely manner. When we start the next phase of our remodel in a few years, there is no question that Board & Vellum will be the who we use for our design.”
